Years back I remember hearing on a program that it takes an individual five minutes to change moods. It took me a while to get my head around that one but when I finally understood that it wasn’t so much about changing moods but more a change of focus, then I really got to work on refocusing when the time asked for it.
Think about it like this. You’re thinking about work and something that is bugging the crap out of you. Most of the time our attention is engrossed in the stuff that makes us stressed, tired and low energiser bunnies.
If you’re swimming around in the muddy end of the lake it’s going to be tough going. So why not spend some quality time swimming in the clear blue waters of the lake. The air is easier to breathe, the sun makes it pleasant in the water and you feel more energetic.
Back to the bugging work thing. If our attention is place on the situation and not on a positive solution, then life becomes slower. The next time something starts bugging you, refocus. Either look for a solution then and there or move on to something else that puts positive energy back into your life.
It took me five minutes at first to shift focus and change “moods”. Now it’s probably down to ninety seconds. And that’s usually going from happy to flat out turbo-charged!
Like blogging today. It’s a public holiday and my girl and I have just been hanging out at home with our dogs and lazing it up! About twenty minutes ago I took the dogs for a walk and instantly got my buzz on. Kept that up until we got home and knew that I was in the moment to get blogging. Zero to energized in about sixty seconds. Mood – from content to cheeky grin.
Five minutes is not that long when you think about. Imagine if you could take five minutes out of your day and focus on what you really want in life. WHOOOOOOAAAAA!
